Land Art

Contemporary art is set in nature and the artworks can be found along hiking trails, inviting one to look at and read the landscape differently.

Geology

The typical reddish-brown limestone and black marl landscape all around you bears witness to former seabeds on which our famous ammonites are found…

Lavender Room

Amid a cosy ambience on the hillside with the valley beneath your feet, you will recharge your batteries in our bed and breakfast for two, while enjoying Christine’s breakfasts, or while on the « gîte » (self-catering) option, thanks to the little kitchen fondly christened « Red Hen ».

Simply enjoy the view, or embark on an adventure by following the recommendations of Jacky, the guide.

Gîte « Le Galabre »

As with our bed and breakfast, you will enjoy a view from above and the stillness of the valley in the gîte « Le Galabre ».

For 4, with two separate rooms, an equipped kitchen and a 45m² terrace, you will have everything at your disposal to enjoy the glorious days Haute Provence offers in complete comfort and serenity.

La Robine sur Galabre

A small village of 300 inhabitants 10km from Digne-les-Bains, it is located in the heart of the geological reserve and right where many of Andy Goldsworthy’s Land Art installations are found.

Between the Siron (1650m) and the Cloches de Barles (1900m), a small torrent threads its way through the village: le Galabre.

It is in this authentic natural setting that Christine and Jacky welcome you to their gîtes and bed and breakfast. They will tell you all about Haute Provence, its culture and its mountains. Jacky is proficient at recommending various hiking and mountain biking trails in the area, while Christine will let you taste her delicious jams and tasty homemade yoghurts.

Preview the Bès Valley and the village La Robine-sur-Galabre

Also worth watching: interview of a geologist from the Musée Promenade talking about the road going through the Bès Valley and the Barles water gaps.

The weather today

The sun is out 300 days per year over here! We have a weather station set up locally by the Institute of Environmental Geosciences (University of Grenoble). You will find all the weather data received from the last two weeks here:

Nature, highlight of your activities

Nature in our region is truly accessible and surprising, first and foremost, in its geology, typical of former seabeds. It also houses the world’s largest collection of contemporary open-air artworks including those of Andy Goldsworthy. This is what gives meaning to your hikes, making it a sporting and contemplative activity at the same time. Our terrain is ideal for mountain biking, whatever your level of experience may be. Generally speaking, Haute Provence will surprise you with its relaxed and easy-going way of life. Let yourself be lulled into its tranquillity.

They’ve been here…

They have been to our gîtes and bed and breakfast, with friends or family, sometimes solo. On vacation, for a thermal cure or for work. We ask, each time, that they leave a note we can share. Each in their own way, these little testimonials recount an experience and evoke memories. Read more on the page dedicated to guest reviews.
